The Bay County Historical Society is working to dry out the basement of its museum, which flooded during heavy rains in Bay City on Tuesday. Six inches of water in the museum basement didn't damage any artifacts, although several dozen Bay County tax record books got wet, and several display items were lost.
Volunteers, including come from the Red Cross removed items from the area, a process that's still ongoing. During that process museum officials found some lingering dampness in the basement, so they're working to dry it out. Museum officials say insurance won't cover the clean-up work, so donations are being sought. Right now the museum galleries are closed, but the Historical Society library, bookstore and offices are open.
