Bill Hewitt

A veteran of radio and newspaper reporting in the Tri-Cities, Bill has been with WSGW since 1980. While trained as a print journalist and photographer, he chose radio "because of its immediacy when it comes to breaking news."  The  police "beat" is Bill's specialty, picking up scanner traffic and often doing live reports from the scene of breaking news.

Bill also has covered the business scene, inlcuding annual stockholders' meetings of Consumers Energy and Dow Chemical Company.  He is a native of Bay City and has a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree (1978) from Central Michigan University and an Associate of Arts (1970) degree from Delta College.

Bill is the winner of several awards from the Associated Press, including top story of the month and individual reporting excellence.

Bill has served as a Bay City Police Reserve Officer for 22 years and as a Bay County Sheriff Marine Patrol deputy for 6 years.  He was the first and only reserve officer to win the Bay City Police Department's highest award, the Life Saving Medal, in 1987.  For more than 30 years Bill has been a first aid and CPR instructor for the American Red Cross.  He has served on boards and committees for several community groups, like American Red Cross, Crime Stoppers, Jaycees, United Way, and his local United Methodist Church.
